Former Michigan House Speaker Rick Johnson is heading to prison for bribery connected to the cannabis industry.
U.S. District Judge Jane Beckering in Grand Rapids sentenced Johnson Thursday to 55 months in prison, saying he abused his power, the Detroit News reports.
"Mr. Johnson, you exploited your power, and you planned it out even before you got the appointment," Beckering said.
Johnson was accused of taking bribes as chairman of the state's medical marijuana licensing board. The judge said Johnson took bribes, meals and satisfied his own sexual desires.
