An Oakland County Circuit judge has rejected a request by the parents of Ethan Crumbley to attend their son's Dec. 8 sentencing in the deadly mass shooting in 2021 at Oxford High School.
Judge Cheryl Matthew wrote in an order that Jennifer and James Crumbley "have not provided any legal authority to support their argument that the court should order the Oakland County Jail to transport the defendants to the sentencing hearing," reports Tresa Baldas of the Detroit Free Press.
The judge noted that she would leave it to the Oakland County Sheriff's Department whether to allow the parents to watch a livestream of the sentencing from the jail.
The parents, who have been in the Oakland County Jail since shortly after the shooting, have been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the case. Authorities say the Crumbley's bought their son a gun instead of providing him with mental health care he so badly needed. He was 15 at the time of the shooting.
