The popular Holiday Market on Main Street in Royal Oak was like Whole Foods before Whole Foods, a general grocery store flush with gourmet offerings, cheeses, liquor and prepared foods.
Now, after 70 years of family ownership, Tom Violante and his sister, Gina Mangold, who owned the market for 25 years that their parents founded, have sold to Johnny and Matthew Shouneyia, brothers and Metro Detroit grocery store owners, the Detroit Free Press reports.
The sale includes the 60,000-square-foot Holiday Market and Holiday Market Select, a 3,000-square-foot store offering many prepared items, on Maple Road in Birmingham, the Freep reports.
The 300-plus workers are expected to be retained.
