Two young boys and their mother were killed in a car crash in Pontiac on Friday night. A 9-year-old daughter in the car is in critical condition, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Department. Speed is believed to have been a factor with the car that crashed into them.
The incident occurred around 8:20 p.m. when the 21-year-old driver of a 2022 Honda Civic was traveling southbound on Joslyn Road and, for unknown reasons, crossed into oncoming traffic.
The vehicle left the roadway, struck multiple signs and poles, then went onto Montcalm Road, where it collided with a 2025 Chevrolet Malibu that had stopped at a red light, the Sheriff's Department said in a press release. Multiple 911 callers reported that a vehicle had gone airborne and that a juvenile may have been ejected.
The 37-year-old mother driving the Malibu, along with her two sons, ages 6 and 4, were pronounced dead. A third passenger, a 9-year-old daughter, is in critical condition at Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital in Royal Oak.
The driver of the Honda was listed Saturday in stable condition at Trinity Health Oakland Hospital.
"This unimaginable tragedy has taken the lives of a parent and two young children," Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a statement. "Our investigators will work tirelessly to determine the full circumstances of this incident, and we extend our deepest sympathies to the family as they navigate this profound loss."
He said the investigation is trying to determine if alcohol or drugs played a part.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to cover funeral expenses and support the surviving daughter, Demi. As of Sunday morning, the fund had raised more than $65,000 as of Tuesday, Aug. 3.
The pages says:
On Friday, August 29th, our lives were forever changed. My only daughter, Deniquah, and her two sons, Dior and Dex, were tragically killed in a car accident caused by a drunk driver.
The only survivor of the crash was my granddaughter, Demi. While we are grateful that she survived, her life will never be the same—she has lost her mother and brothers in one heartbreaking moment.
